Formlabs announced the Fuse X1 on 9 June 2026, expanding its selective laser sintering range into larger-format production. The printer’s stated build volume is 330 × 330 × 565 mm, and its ecosystem includes powder recovery, automated powder transport and cleaning equipment.

Formlabs describes thermal control across 13 independent zones and layer monitoring designed to identify defects and exclude affected parts from subsequent layers. These capabilities and performance comparisons are manufacturer claims, not independent PrintVeld benchmarks.

At launch, orders opened with deliveries planned for the fourth quarter of 2026. That timetable does not confirm delivery dates or availability in South Africa.

PrintVeld’s take: local engineering businesses and service bureaus should evaluate the whole workflow before comparing SLS with filament printing or outsourcing. Powder handling, post-processing, throughput and the mix of parts in a batch all influence whether a larger machine makes sense.

A bigger chamber is useful only when it matches the work arriving at the shop. Would a local SLS service change how you design functional parts, or are most of your jobs already well served by filament printers?
