Additive Innovations announced the Rx Lab pilot programme on 1 September 2026. The new benchtop binder-jetting system is designed for pharmaceutical formulation research, with selected partners invited to evaluate it in their own laboratories. Initial deliveries are expected in the first quarter of 2027.

The company describes up to four independent fluid channels, open control software and the ability to explore different tablet structures, including core-shell and channel designs. Nozzle-level detection and print audit logging aim to support repeatable research.

The significance is additive manufacturing moving beyond the shape of a part to its internal architecture and material placement. This announcement concerns research equipment and a limited pilot programme; it does not establish approved medicines or routine clinical availability.

PrintVeld’s take: for South African university and research communities, it is a useful example of how the same layer-by-layer idea can serve very different fields. We have not evaluated the system. What other research applications should our community follow?
